The Fit Floor Part 3: Alignment - Position Your Pelvic Floor For Fitness
The relationship between your diaphragm and pelvic floor is synergistic. In the ideal situation, the pelvic floor mirrors the movement of your diaphragm, giving the pelvic floor uniform tone from front to back. The key to supporting this synergistic relationship is posture. All too often, we tuck our tailbones, throwing the rib cage back and limiting the ability of the diaphragm to move evenly front to back. This causes the back of the pelvic floor to become hypertonic and the front to become hypotonic.
Correct Posture for Your Diaphragm
In this video, Julie Wiebe, PT, shows what both correct and incorrect posture looks like, and how to adjust your posture to optimize the relationship between your diaphragm and pelvic floor to create overall tone.
