Suhas Kshirsagar BAMS MD

Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, BAMS, MD Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar is a classically trained Ayurvedic physician and a gold medalist from prestigious Pune University. A Rig Vedic Bramhin by tradition and an accomplished Clinician by training, he adds tremendous value to his clients and students alike. He is an insightful Medical Astrologer...

"Death Begins in the Colon" said Dr. Bernard Jensen, D.C., also known as the father of holistic health. The accumulation of toxic debris in the body due to inadequate digestion and elimination, he suggested, produces poisons that slowly, over time can kill us.

Interestingly, what Dr. Jensen pointed out some 70 years ago , for millennia has been a central tenet of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of natural health.  Ayurveda takes the concept of toxicity related to incomplete digestion one step further, suggesting that the accumulation of ama, i.e. toxic byproducts of inadequate digestion, is the key factor that undermines our health and well-being on a day to day basis and eventually lays the foundation for chronic diseases.

If Constipation Can Kill You, What Will It Do to You Before You Die?

Few people in modern society are exempt from the effects of imperfect digestion and elimination. By some estimates, as many as 100 million Americans are affected by digestive disorders, which result in over 50 million physician visits and more hospitalizations than any other category of medical problems in the U.S. today.

And these statistics cover only actual disorders. According to Ayurveda, digestive imbalances affect our health and well-being in numerous ways, long before they lead to actual diagnosable disorders.

When digestion is weak, according to Ayurveda, the food that we take in is not digested properly, resulting in the accumulation of ama, a toxic residue that lodges deep in our cells. The buildup of ama gradually undermines the health of bodily tissues and zaps our vitality, health, and well-being.

Signs of ama includes bad breath, a coated tongue, lack of appetite, tendency to constipation or chronic constipation, fatigue, susceptibility to infections, and a tendency to mood swings and even depression.

What is the degree of ama in your body, and how can you reduce it or prevent it from accumulating in the first place? In this 2-part course, Ayurvedic Vaidya Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar joins us to discuss the principles of Ayurvedic detoxification and ways to enhance digestive health to preempt the accumulation of toxins in the body in the first place.
