Natasha Rizopoulos

Natasha Rizopoulos As a dedicated Ashtanga practitioner for many years, Natasha is equally captivated by the precision of the Iyengar system. These two traditions inform her teaching, creating a mindful and dynamic blend of Vinyasa Flow.  Now a Senior Teacher with Down Under Yoga, and a writer, teacher, and DVD...

The core is the physical, emotional, and energetic center of our being. Building greater core stability is the one thing most everyone needs in order to progress in yoga. Once we reconnect with the core, it has important spillover effects to all parts of our life, says acclaimed yoga teacher Natasha Rizopoulos in this free download.

While core strength long has been a buzzword, the concept of core stability goes much deeper, explains Natasha. It involves a balanced rebuilding and reconnection with this important energetic center of our body. Building greater core stability will enrich your yoga practice, prevent chronic pain problems as you get older, and on a more immediate basis, improve your physical and mental well-being. If our core is weak, the ups and downs of life are much harder to take. A strong core makes us stronger and more resilient.

Natasha talks about what core strengthening actually means, and why many traditional fitness programs tend to approach core strengthening in a lopsided way. She also notes how many yoga poses that are not commonly thought of as core strengtheners really are, once you learn how to engage the core muscles during practice. A well-rounded and correctly aligned practice of familiar yoga poses, she notes, will give you greater strength than endless abdominal work.
