The yogic concept of Prana holds the key to more fully understanding the forces that govern our health and well-being, says ParaYoga teacher Katie Silcox in this free download.
Prana is the life force that breathes life into our body, keeping us alive every moment of the day. Prana is the guiding intelligence of the body, the subtle, self-regulating intelligence that coordinates the millions of processes constantly unfolding in our body.
In her teaching of yoga, Katie draws extensively on the ParaYoga style of teaching founded by Yogarupa Rod Stryker. This style of yoga, Katie explains, is based on the ancient wisdom of Tantra, which places a special emphasis on the importance of Prana not just for health and healing, but for our spiritual deepening as well.
Katie discusses how Prana also forms a central concept in Ayurveda. The key focus of all the Ayurvedic treatment modalities is to restore the flow of the life force energy to all parts of the body. Our lifestyle habits, our thoughts, our emotions all affect the flow of Prana in our body. And in turn, if we persist in habits that block the flow of Prana in our body, our health and well-being is affected.
Conversely, if we adjust our lifestyle habits, we can begin to restore the flow of Prana, and improve health and well-being. Katie talks about how yoga provides a powerful tool to begin to work more actively with Prana in your body by enhancing body awareness and freeing up the flow of the subtle energy. Learning to work more consciously with Prana gives us a tool to go to the root of all imbalances and heal the energy body. As this happens, we open the door for the body’s own innate healing power to unfold more fully.
