Judith Hanson Lasater

Judith Hanson Lasater The practice of yoga is fundamentally an act of kindness toward oneself. This idea is often forgotten, but not by Judith, whose approach is warm, non-judgmental and responsive to individual differences and needs. Judith Lasater has taught yoga since 1971. She holds a doctorate in East-West...

Is our yoga too small? In this free download, renowned yoga teacher Judith Hanson Lasater poses this provocative question.

Too often, Judith argues, we confine yoga to the mat, or to asana, pranayama, or meditation. But what would happen if we could grow our yoga, i.e. if we could shift our way of being in the world?

If we grow our yoga, we learn that to practice yoga is to live with awareness, Judith notes. One example of living with awareness is to be immediately aware of the feelings that are arising in our body instead of jumping to the thoughts about the feelings.

We tend to not think of the body as something ‘spiritual,’ says Judith. But being with the feelings in our flesh, in our being, brings us radically into the moment. When we are honestly connected in every situation with our own humanity, we become connected with the humanity and the spirituality of ourselves and the spirituality of the other. We act in ways that leave a residue in the world that we like.

It’s our presence from our deepest selves, that is our yoga in action. More and more, as we practice through the years, that becomes increasingly automatic, Judith notes.
