Suhas Kshirsagar BAMS MD
What if the key factor in feeling rested and alert wasn’t how much sleep you got, but when you went to bed? What if, for weight-management and metabolism of nutrition, when you ate mattered more than what you ate? What if the same applied to exercise? The emerging field of Chronobiology reveals that the above may be true: it is not what you do, but when you do it that’s more important.
In this talk, Ayurvedic physician Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar explains how circadian rhythms affect more than just our sleep patterns. Our brain’s response to daylight and darkness affects the biological function of our cells and tissues, the physiological functions of our organ systems, and our genes themselves. It turns out that certain “clock genes” in our body govern not only fat metabolism, but can also turn on or off certain disease causing genes.
With the support of this recent medical discovery, Dr. Kshirsagar lays out the Ayurvedic concept that we must respect time and sync our daily routine to it, because whether we like it or not, we are strongly affected by the rhythms around us. By going back to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, which is probably the only science that has ever even talked about daily routine, seasonal routine, and nightly routine, we can address a whole host of health issues and reclaim our vitality.
There’s an ancient saying in Ayurveda that says, “If you follow the rules of diet and behavior, there is no need for medicine. But if you don’t follow the rules of diet and behavior, there is no use of medicine.” If we look at the latest research, we see that indeed, eighty percent of all chronic diseases are lifestyle diseases (heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.). In this free download, Dr. Kshirsagar outlines key changes in lifestyle that can prevent or even help mitigate these lifestyle diseases. He also lists the single most common precursor to all of these diseases, and how to identify it in your own body. He explains simple lifestyle changes, including when to eat the heaviest meal of the day, and the most effective time to do a quick cardio workout.
