Yoga for Chronic Pain

With
Marlysa Sullivan

Chronic pain is a complex condition that has been shown to have important considerations for working with both the body and mind in the process of healing and for the alleviation of suffering.  In chronic pain, the nervous system becomes sensitized to sensation and there are changes in the brain's relationship to sensation, to the body, to thoughts and to emotions.   Yoga, through the integrated practice of postures, breathing, and meditation, gives us a way to regulate the nervous system, the body and the mind as well as to change the relationship and reaction to sensation and therefore change the experience of pain.  This class is an exploration of working with asana to focus on balancing common musculoskeletal imbalances, as well as breathing and mindfulness/meditation practices to regulate both the mind and body to help with relief from pain and suffering.
